An August 2016 crash on I-80 took the life of a 22 year old man, when a tractor trailer failed to stop in traffic and rear ended the man’s car. The tractor trailer driver has been charged this month with motor vehicle homicide.
The accident caused a chain reaction crash that involved four other vehicles. The driver of the Chevy died later, and another man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to the attorney for the family of the deceased, the man’s death has devastated the family. He noted that the family believes the truck driver and the company he drives for – Kroeger Trucking – must be held liable for the crash.
The family filed a wrongful death lawsuit last month. It stated taht the truck driver and company caused the fatal, rear end truck crash. The suit also stated that the truck driver did not slow down on I-80 as traffic slowed, and he also had a history of reckless driving.
Our View
Our hearts go out to the family who lost their loved one in this rear end tractor trailer crash. Our tractor trailer wreck attorneys in Virginia have represented many devastated families who lost a loved one to a careless truck driver. Truck drivers must obey the rules of the road, and they need to slow down and drive with care when they are approaching slowing traffic on the highway.
However, far too often, the truck driver is in a rush to get to his destination due to pressure from his employer. Sometimes truckers drive too fast and they kill innocent people.
We are glad that the family has filed a civil lawsuit to recover damages for the preventable death of their relative. Our truck accident attorneys recently settled a wrongful death truck crash case in Virginia for $2.25 million. Depending upon the circumstances of the case, many wrongful death truck crash cases can lead to very large settlements.
